With it's bustling seafood scene and semi-significant Vietnamese population, it's only fitting that Baton Rouge has a place called Viet's Seafood. This wholesaler is straight up a no frill spot to score fresh, local catches from the Bayou. A no frills approach to seafood in a dodgey part of town? Sign me up. I'm not even sure most Baton Rouge folks would visit this spot on a regular basis. The neighborhood has certainly seen better days; sketchy characters and sparse activity don't exactly make this a destination. Only one word needs to be mentioned: Crawfish. If they're in season, this is a great place to score them in bunches without having to fork over much. Tony's is the premier spot for all things from the sea, but Viet's is the place to rock quality Crawfish on the cheap. Every time we've ordered a large crate, it's been nothing but succulent, good sized, juicy crawdads for consumption. Crabmeat lovers, this is your spot as well. I've been lucky to score some quality crab meat in bunches that I've used for anything and everything (crab meat benedict anyone?). I believe jumbo shrimp is also available here but I would recommend calling ahead of time to confirm the rest. Lastly, they're not open late (7pm) and parking is extremely limited.
